Don't spray unfound rumor. Mrs. Gates was a board director of national United Way, a non-profit charity organization. Mrs. Gates did know John Opel who was a fellow director, and chairman of IBM. Mrs. Gates mentioned his son's company to Opel who mentioned it to other IBM executive.
