Why male peacock has beautiful tail is probably controlled by very few genes. a random gene variation can produce that.
The beauty of color and pattern may be due to our mind, such as symmetry, regular patterns, bright color and high contrast etc.
Furthermore, beauty is not a universally accepted concept. For example, left hand people may think it may be more beautiful if anything starts from left.
