to picking up noodle strands, in fact, you can be more precise about where you want to parse the noodle strands among a big pile. The advantage is particularly obvious when you are eating Cantonese thin noodles rather than Manchurian thick noodles because the former will be harder to lodge a firm grip upon by the traditional Chinese chopsticks.
Another improvement over Chinese chopsticks is that all Japanese chopsticks are completely rounded out, unlike the square-ridged Chinese counterparts. This also makes the grip much more comfortable. I have always wondered why Chinese chopsticks had to be rectangualr in shape at the grip area.
