There are DES like cryptosystems, meaning that they keep the 64bit blocksize of DES plus some add-on. They usually have longer key like 64 or 128bits. Yet, they are not DES.
Currently, civilian version of DES crackers cost around $250,000, and it uses brute force attack and is able to break DES in days. The most of famous one is DES cracker which can test all possible DES keys in 5 days.
