But when it become valid. Right now it is valid as soon as teh other side get it. Say you have a bill due on OCterber 1, if you send yoru check now, you lose several day's interest. and it is too risky to
send on sept 28 because it may get there
late and cause a late fee.

If you write "valid only after October 1", and
if the bank acknowledge it, then the
recipient can not even cash it before
october.
