Normally you go with a professional for a try. It is usually offered in resorts and cruise. They may require minimal age of 8.

You need a certification if you would like to dive yourself which means you can parterner with any adults with certification (you need a dive partner for any dive). Any kids under 16 with certification needs to dive with parents or professional instructor. That's why I was forced by my son to get the certification.
